Writing My Way Out of a Pandemic
Baking at home alone has suddenly lost its appeal.
I remember when making pizza was an exciting adventure. I was in lockdown alone in my tiny apartment and I tried to make the best of it.
It was March of 2020 and since I also was newly unemployed and separated from my partner and close family. I had no choice but to work with the hand I had been dealt.
Looking back on last year and now standing in June 2021, I admit it was a challenging time. I learned a lot, but I would not want to go back and not sure when I will be making pizza again.
I miss my pre-pandemic life. I miss being able to see my partner who lives overseas. I miss being gainfully employed and toying with writing on the side.
I miss not having to think about gig writing, writing on medium, and being concerned about my readership and stripe payments now that writing is my primary source of income. I miss being able to fly to see my family, having my own apartment, and not having to worry about what the future will bring.
The future has happened.
The damage of COVID-19 will be with us for a long time. I’m not sure what the rest of 2021 will bring, but it looks equally uncertain.
